Friendship Center Affiliate Website • http://www.vnfc.ca/ Name of Youth Council: Rave YC Youth Working Committee Structure of Youth Council: 8 dedicated youth, no formal positions or executive committee. Everyone shares responsibilities amongst each other. Mission Statement/Purpose of Youth Council:
“To provide opportunities for Youth to learn and to have a voice. To create an environment where all youth feel respected, safe and can have fun.” Activities: Provide input and direction to the RAVE Youth Centre regarding programming and initiatives, creation of a youth work experience program where youth will work with youth staff to help supervise the drop-in and earn hours towards graduation. Fundraisers: Wake-a-thon (collect pledges & try to stay up for 24 hrs), car washes, Indian taco days, raffles… Events: Every year the RAVE YC has a youth recognition feast where youth are recognized by their peers and the community for the outstanding work that they do with the Friendship Centre. Tips: Choose your own structure, and find what works for you! You don’t need to have a really structured setup in order to have a youth council. If having an executive committee doesn’t work for you, then scratch it! It might take time to play around with, but having a youth voice will benefit your entire community in the long run and it’s worth the wait to have everyone comfortable and happy :)
Goals: Our major goal is to keep a sustainable and healthy youth committee and to also establish the Youth Supervisor/work experience program. Additional Information: RAVE YC ROCKS! Contact Info: Megan C., Youth Mentor
