First Citizens Forum
On November 19 th , 2004 , PAYC members and BCAAFC staff members attended the First Citizen's Forum. The provincial government hosts this meeting once a year as a way to get input from Aboriginal people. This year the theme of the forum was youth. The forum began with opening words from Premier Gordon Campbell and Murray Coell, Minster of Community, Aboriginal and Women's Services. Then, a moving presentation was made by guest speaker Dr. Martin Brokenleg, who spoke about the four aspects of strength of spirit: Significance, Competence, Personal Power, and Virtue. Then there was an opportunity to break up into small discussion groups and share ideas. After lunch, there was a panel of four Aboriginal youth, and further discussion groups. PAYC prepared a power point presentation to show the forum, but they did not get a chance to present it. For more information of the forum, see:
