How Can I Join PAYC?
If you are interested in getting involved with PAYC, speak to the youth coordinator or executive director at your Friendship Centre. Membership is open to youth between the ages of 14-24 who are consistent participants in their local Friendship Centres and who have the support of their Friendship Centre's Board of Directors.
PAYC Membership Guidelines
Youth delegates selected to attend the BCAAFC quarterly meetings should be:
- Regularly involved in their Friendship centre's activities, so they can bring back ideas and information to help their centre
- Passionate about Aboriginal youth issues
- Knowledgeable and/or interested in Aboriginal culture and traditions
- Demonstrating a lifestyle that display a healthy role model
- Supportive of PAYC's goals and aims as specified in their mission statement
A youth delegate attending BCAAFC meetings must:
- Have full support from the Board of Directors of their Friendship Centre
- Be informed about the issues on the agenda for the meeting
- Know basic policies and a bit of background about the BCAAFC
- Understand the policies and goals of PAYC
While attending BCAAFC meeting, a youth delegate is required to:
- Be on time for meetings and attend the entire time
- Be a team player
- Be organized
- Listen and be open minded
- Remain alcohol and drug free for the entire weekend
- Make an effort to participate in meetings
- Be willing to develop communication skills such as public speaking
- Be willing to develop additional skills required for the position
After leaving the BCAAFC meeting, youth delegates should demonstrate:
- Ability to stay connected with youth outside of meetings
- Continued regular involvement with their centre's activities
- Willingness to participate in PAYC planning and activities
- Interest in connecting youth in their communities with the PAYC
